GelSight® Mobile 4.2 Software Update Delivers One-Click Automation and Full Modulus™ Support, Marking a Major Leap in Surface Analysis Workflow

Waltham, Mass. – August 26, 2025 GelSight®, a pioneer in tactile intelligence technology, today announced the release of its GelSight® Mobile™ 4.2 (GSM 4.2) software update that delivers powerful new automation and system-wide performance enhancements. GSM 4.2 adds many new features designed to add support for GelSight’s new Modulus™ system. GSM 4.2 introduces cutting-edge capabilities applicable to Mobile, Max, and Modulus probes to streamline surface inspection and analysis through enhanced automation. The update also provides extended system flexibility for advanced users across metrology, manufacturing, and R&D environments.

“GelSight Mobile 4.2 represents a significant leap forward in user experience and workflow automation,” said Milan Kocic, Vice President, Product at GelSight. “We’ve delivered a set of enhancements that make our system easier to navigate, faster, and more powerful, especially with the full integration of Modulus. Our customers will immediately feel the impact.”

 Key Features of GSM 4.2:

  • One-Click AutoOffset: Drastically simplifies offset routine results and evaluation with automatic offset calculation and surface compensation. Customers just create an offset profile line, and the system automatically compensates for the surface get fast results. Turbine edge defect measurements are radically faster.
  • Modulus Platform Support: Full system integration with GelSight’s new modular hardware platform enables:
    • Hot-swappable, serialized lenses
    • Fast USB connection (with long cable support up to 5m)
    • RFID-scannable gels for automatic tracking and updates
    • Seamless firmware updates
    • Optimized features like autofocus, autoexposure, image stabilization, gel-state detection, and thermal management
  • New Calibration Plate: GSM 4.2 supports the FBG-250 Modulus calibration plate, which improves usability and precision, particularly for advanced use cases.
  • Enhanced 2D Image & Tool Performance:
    • Advanced image stabilization for S2 devices
    • Improved 2D tool variants with auto-snapping and pass/fail routines
    • Optimized thumbnail loading and memory usage

These upgrades position GSM 4.2 as the company’s most robust and user-friendly software release to date, unlocking advanced automation and significantly reducing manual input for both novice and expert users.

The update is available to existing GelSight customers and will be pre-installed on all new Modulus systems beginning this summer. Request more information by contacting [email protected]. To learn more about GelSight’s mobile metrology solutions, visit the company’s website.
